International ex-libris competition Finland 2020

1. Participants may send a maximum of 6 different bookplates, each of them in three copies which will not be returned. The year of creation is not restricted, therefore old bookplates are also accepted.

2. There are no limitations to the methods and techniques of creation.

3. The artwork must include the words “Ex libris”, “The Bookplate of…” or a similar expression (e.g. “From the library of…”) and it must portray the name of the person or institution to whom the bookplate has been created.

4.  Each copy must be signed or display the author’s initials. The backside of the bookplate must have the following information 1) the name of the artist, 2) methods of creation, 3) year of creation and 4) name of the owner.

5. The maximum size of the work is A4 (210x297 mm).

6. The bookplates must be sent in a way that no damage will occur to them. The postmark must be obtained by the 1st of April 2020, which is the deadline.

8. At least 17 prizes, of a total value of 4,000 €: 1x1,000 €, 1 x 500 €, 1 x 400 €, 1 x 200 €, 10 x 100 €, and in addition honorary mentions, will be given. Special prizes 3 x 300 €, if the theme is Finland, Lapland or Moominland.

9. The evaluation of the bookplate will take into consideration the artistry, technique and aesthetics as well as the composition between the image and the text.   

10. The jury is composed of Exlibris Aboensis. 

11. The awarded artists will receive an exhibition catalogue in which are published, in addition to the best works, the contact details of all participant artists. The results will be published online on the society’s web-page: www.exl.fi.

12. Exlibris Aboensis receives the right to use all submissions to promote and advance avocational activities.

13. The best bookplates will be displayed in multiple exhibitions held by the society.

14. By participating, the artist agrees to these terms and the decisions made by the jury.

15. The application form below must be filled and sent together with the submitted works.
